My name is Alysa Bymoen and I am a high school student at W.H. Croxford where I am enrolled in the Music Academy. This program allows me to further my knowledge and skills in music at school, it is something that I intend to take full advantage of.
I started playing the cello in grade four and continued into grade five. However, I had to give the instrument up for three years when I moved cities. In grade seven and eight I played bass clarinet in band class, although I do not play that anymore. Outside of school, I took guitar classes (started in grade six), voice classes (started in grade seven), and piano classes (started in grade nine).
Growing up, music has been ever present in my life and in the lives of people in my family. My parents both used to ply instruments when they were younger along with their siblings. My late great-grandmother played organ since she was a young girl and she played every Sunday in her church. She even kept the skill through World War II and raising four children. She is one inspiration. However, my love of music was first inspired by my older sister and later from the first concert that I had ever been to. The concert was three bands; Nightranger, Loverboy, and Journey.
My goal this year is to be able to compose a piece of my own that could be altered and played in a large ensemble with a variety of different instruments. My goal for life is to keep music an ever present part in my life even as I grow older. Even make a career of it being a composer. We'll see.
